From how digital cameras work, to how to work your digital camera. In this 2 week introductory class, we will figure out the controls for your digital; discuss resolution, white balance, and file formats; define basic photo terms and concepts; and suggest techniques for improving photos. Photoshop Elements will also be discussed. Workshop fee: $65

Basic Photography or Digital Photography 2

This class is designed for the student who wants to take their photography skills to the next level. An SLR is preferred but any camera with a manual mode will work. We will work on the image from conception to final presentation. Through the use of basic photographic techniques the student will be able to create and capture the images they want.
This class is about the capture of images. It is not a computer program class! Photoshop and digital and wet darkroom techniques will be discussed, however it will not be the focus of this class. This class will include homework assignments and approx. $25 in supplies.

This hands-on intensive is geared for amateur photographers who want to use light to paint the human form. Several different lighting techniques will be introduced with discussion about how to achieve specific effects in studio and natural light settings. A comparison of the commercial photographer's approach and that of the fine art photographer will be addressed. Limited to 6 students, photographers will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with life models in each set. Digital camera recommended, SLR required. Workshop fee: $195 plus $60 model fee ($100 deposit holds space)

Figure Photography in the Natural Environment On Location
Spring 2008
A new workshop designed offers the beginning to amateur photographer an opportunity to work with life models in a natural setting. The first in a series of on-location figure photo workshops, this one day class will be held on huge granite boulders with the open ocean as a backdrop. Discussion will include composition, challenges of natural light, using light form panels and other accessories to control and manipulate the environment. Limited to 6 students, photographers will have ample time to shoot one-on-one with the models. Digital camera recommended, SLR required. Workshop fee: $225 plus $60 model fee ($100 deposit holds space) Please note: this workshop is not for the "faint of heart" bring plenty of water and be physically able to carry your equipment over rough terrain.

The Photographic Workshop Cooperative
For the serious photo enthusiast who is ready to immerse his or herself into the photographic process - The Workshop Cooperative. This 10 week intensive will include weekly round table discussions on photographic craft, personal aesthitic development and honest critique. Topics will include: style, composition, environmental, studio lighting, wet darkroom and digital darkroom, and dry mounting / matting / framing for professional presentation. Each member of the co-op will be able to schedule time in the digital lab, wet darkroom, studio and gallery. The goal will be for each student to work within the group, create a cohesive body of work, and then organize a group art show and reception at the studio’s gallery space. In addition, there will be demonstrations and the opportunity to work with Michael around the studio, darkroom, and on location. Fee $795 |
| Michael offers private photography, lighting and darkroom instruction at $95.00 per hour (discounted for mulitiple hours), designed for each individuals' interests.
